i am now trying to read Yu Dan's (于丹) commentary on the Analects - 3 pages a day. it's quite amazing that i can read a lot better than i thought, and i think the Analects would be best understood in its original language.
Genre - Psychedelic rock, folk rock
I find myself attracted to many things in the 60s - Vietnam, psychedelic rock amongst other things. And I'm very adversed to taking pills even panadol etc. Hmm... JT says I must have been a hippie who died of overdose. BAH.
This is considered to be the 'quintessential album of 1960s counterculture' (wiki). Not hard to see/hear why. NB: I really should put more warnings about drug use etc. NAH.
Somebody to love

Genre - Psychedelic rock, hard rock
Frak! This is the stuff of LEGEND. And Jim Morrison is poet, composer, GOD. And those wicked instrumental parts!
Hard rock or heavy rock is a sub-genre of rock music which has its earliest roots in mid-1960s garage and psychedelic rock and is considerably harder than conventional rock music. It is typified by a heavy use of distorted electric guitars, bass guitar, drums, pianos, and other keyboards.

Take it as it comes

My family was supposed to catsit Sheba while her owner (i.e. my elder sister's friend) went on an overseas exchange program for 2 months. However, after 2 months, her owner never took her back and even came up with a (really lousy) excuse to leave her with us. It's been 8 months since Sheba's been with us. (Months because my sister first tried looking for people she knew but to no avail.)
As much as we would like to keep her, we live in a HDB flat, which the government doesn't allow cats as pets in. Plus, our flat has really limited space for her to run and jump about because 1) we have a lot of stuff lying around, and 2) she's not allowed into my mother's and brother's rooms, and the kitchen. (My brother has asthma and my mum doesn't like cat fur flying all over.) We also worry about how she might jump out of our windows because we live on the mighty 12th floor.
( More details and pictures of her here )
Experienced cat owners preferred. Please direct anyone in Singapore you know (who has owned cats before/ interested in getting a cat) here!

Medley (Quiet night of quiet stars, change partners and the girl from ipanema)

Genre - Art rock, Experimental rock, Protopunk
Billed as one of the most important rock albums in history, this album supposedly predates and influenced most of today's popular music genres, "such as glam, punk, new wave, goth, noise" allmusic etc. Well.. listening to the album I suppose maybe.
[warning] Lots of 'interesting' subject matter though - including drug use, kinky sex etcetcetc

Sailor Saturn is just so cool~ >.< I love her Silent Glaive though. HAHA
Sailor Saturn Information
Titles:
Warrior of Silence, Destruction, Ruin and Rebirth
Powers and Attack:
Sailor Saturn's powers are mostly based on Roman mythology, in which Saturn is the god of the harvest. As such, her primary role is that of the destroyer, and her coming is greatly feared by the Outer Senshi. Her first act upon arrival is to assault Master Pharaoh 90 with the attack "Death Reborn Revolution. The kanji used with this maneuver translate to "death world revolution" (死世界変革), with the intended pronunciation given in furigana.
The item most associated with Sailor Saturn is her iconic Silence Glaive, which, apart from its capacity as a bladed weapon, figures in many of her named attacks. It is referred to once as the "scythe of the Goddess of Death," and the act of lowering its point to the ground is all that is required for her to "bring ruin to the world." No incantation is spoken, and this action is separated from "Death Reborn Revolution" by the dialogue given in between the two maneuvers. In the anime, it is implied that Sailor Saturn will die if she uses this ability,
When Sailor Saturn returns near the end of the fourth story arc (which overflows into the beginning of the fifth anime series), several more attacks are introduced. She defends herself and her allies with Silence/Silent Wall (不動城壁, "motionless rampart"),a dome of dark energy that deflects attacks, and attacks with Silence Glaive Surprise (沈黙鎌奇襲, "silence sickle surprise attack
but.. recently, at work, we had a meeting of 6 ppl. 2 r chinese nationals, 2 r indonesians, 3 r locals.
the chinese were the one talking, and they spoke in english so tat every1 can understand.
at tat instant, i immediately felt... 1 of them was trying to speak proper english, wif the proper ending sound of each word like "checK", "lefT", "lesS"... he was trying to ensure the last letter was heard.. n it sounded like "checkER", "leftER", "lessER"..
den e other person.. was like trying hard to speak proper english as well, but well, his china accent clearly is still there..
ie, they're both not native speakers or.. dun speak english tat much.. n when they spoke, it became very obvious...

umm... wonder.. when i spoke to my frns in english, did i sound too hard as well...
Taiwan for Thanksgiving. Brazil for Christmas. Took my second to last test at end of October. Starting to study for CSP at end of April.
Do I like studying? I don't know. Do I like working? I don't know. Last week I was exhausted, even after sleeping and having a weekend. It seems like I get tired not from doing stuff but from having too much static on the brain. When I was studying, I didn't feel tired. When I was working, I didn't feel tired. However, I did get tired from being poked at work. "Give me this!" "I need this now!" "This should have been done yesterday." I also feel anxious and can't sleep when I start thinking about family. Like how I have to call them and talk to them and how annoying they are. Sometimes I wish they would get killed in a car accident. Doesn't matter how, just so I don't have to deal with them or call them. Similarly, I wish I could find a job that wasn't constantly poking me and stressing me out. The whole point of becoming an actuary was to sell out in exchange for a peaceful life. I didn't realize I would end up in consulting, which is all about time pressure and stress. Yuck.
Yesterday I thought about Vi, found him on facebook. Looks the same as I remember him. All his status updates were about Sarah Palin. Wow. He's even more conservative than I remember. Then again, even in my memory he was pretty conservative. But, there was definitely an attraction there between us. He liked boring shows from the 80's like "Where's Alvin" or "Who's Sally" or "Hanging out with Mr. Boss" or who-knows-what I can't even remember. He liked X-Box and video games, but I only liked Snood. He put conservative election signs in his yard. We didn't have much in common. Except we had some really good, kick-ass, amazing sex. When we first met, he was living in a South Loop condo. It had an amazing view of downtown Chicago from the south, which was different because usually I viewed it from the north. South Side was the ghetto and I didn't go there much.
P.S. Facebook sucks. All my coworkers and acquaitances friended me so I can no longer express myself on there. It's just an extension of being in public or at work. Well, if I wanted that I would just go outside or go to work. Don't see the point.
Uncles and aunties craning their necks. A little boy peddling his toy bicycle. A young girl on a swing. A few police cars. An ambulance. Drying blood on rough concrete floor. Body zipped into bodybag like so much garbage. A covered rubbish bin used to block access to the scene.
Did she fell? Did she jump? Does she has anyone to mourn her passing? What went through her mind as she flew through the air?
Like dew drops on grass, life on this earth is too fleeting.
And you know what? I wish you're here so that we can make love to celebrate being alive...
